1. Introduction
MindEat ("we", "our", "us") is a grocery management app developed by Nadav Fisch. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the MindEat application.
By using MindEat, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information to provide and improve the app:
- Account Information: Email address and display name when signing in with Google or Apple.
- Shopping Data: Shopping lists, items, quantities, categories, and prices you enter.
- Recipe Data: Recipes you create, import, or save โ including titles, ingredients, steps, and photos.
- Inventory Data: Home inventory items, quantities, and expiry dates.
- Event Data: Meal plans, events, and calendar data you create.
- Expense Data: Shopping expenses and receipt photos you upload.
- Nutrition Data: Food log entries, calorie records, and nutrition goals you choose to track. This may be considered health-related data; it is stored in your account, used only to show you your own logs and summaries, and never sold or used for advertising.
- AI Interactions: Messages you send to the AI assistant, and content you submit for AI analysis โ recipe text, photos, and video links โ processed via the third-party AI providers listed in Section 4.
- Location Data: Approximate location, only if you grant permission, used to show nearby stores and branch prices. We do not build or store a history of your movements.
- Voice: In hands-free cooking mode, voice commands are recognized on your device using Apple's speech recognition. We do not receive or store audio recordings.
- Usage Data: App interactions, feature usage, and crash reports to help us fix bugs.
- Device Information: Device type, OS version, and app version.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the app's features
- To sync your data across your devices
- To power AI assistant features (recipe generation, smart suggestions)
- To provide price comparison information
- To improve the app and fix bugs

4. Data Processing & Third-Party Services
We use the following trusted third-party services to operate MindEat:
- Firebase (Google): Authentication, database (Firestore), file storage, and hosting. Data may be stored on Google Cloud servers. See Firebase Privacy.
- Anthropic (Claude API): AI assistant messages are sent to Anthropic for processing. See Anthropic Privacy Policy.
- OpenAI: Recipe content you import (text and photos) is processed by OpenAI models to extract ingredients and steps, and audio from imported videos may be transcribed using OpenAI Whisper. See OpenAI Privacy Policy.
- Google Gemini: When you import a recipe from a YouTube link, the video may be analyzed using Google's Gemini API. See Google Privacy Policy.
- Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics (Google): Anonymous usage analytics and crash reports that help us understand feature usage and fix bugs.
- Sentry: Error and crash diagnostics. Reports may include device information and app state at the time of an error. See Sentry Privacy Policy.
- Google Sign-In: If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name from Google.
- Apple Sign-In: If you sign in with Apple, we receive the information you choose to share.
5. Data Storage & Security
- Your data is stored in Google Cloud (Firebase) infrastructure
- Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest
- We follow industry-standard security practices
- Access to backend systems is restricted to authorized personnel
6. Data Retention
- We retain your data for as long as your account is active
- When you delete your account, all your data is permanently deleted from our servers
- Backup copies may persist for up to 30 days after deletion
7. Your Rights
- Access: View your data within the app at any time.
- Export: Use the Export Data feature in Settings.
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data via Settings โ Account โ Delete Account.
- Correction: Edit your data directly in the app.
- EU/EEA users: You have rights under GDPR including data portability and the right to object to processing.
- Israeli users: You have rights under the Privacy Protection Law, 5741-1981.
8. Children's Privacy
MindEat is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
